building a better community with communivercity

CommUniverCity (CUC) SJSU is a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering connections between the city of San Jose, San Jose State University, and the communities within Council District 3, which boasts a population of over 100,000 residents. CommUniverCity’s mission is to cultivate a vibrant and healthy community by providing resources, educational opportunities, and engaging events to those who are underserved.

Despite juggling a full-time student workload, contributing to a magazine as a writer, and working in an internship, I maxed out my days by committing to the role of Marketing and Communications Specialist for CommUniverCity. In this capacity, I assumed full responsibility for managing both internal and external communications, creating footsteps in its digital footprint, and implementing strategic marketing initiatives.

here’s a list of things i did at CommUniverCity SJSU within a span of a year:

  • Managed digital media platforms: Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn

  • Created over 300 pieces of content for events, social media, and meetings, including copy and graphics

  • Designed over a dozen presentations

  • Wrote blogs

  • Event photography

  • Light graphic design

  • Created the latest configuration for the monthly newsletter

  • Crafted the monthly newsletter

  • Social media, event, and email marketing

  • Built an entire annual report on my own, seriously: from the outline, theme development, data collection, graphic design, format/layout design, and copywriting

  • Website copy

  • Worked alongside a UX/UI designer in creating the new company page

  • Math

  • Data collection

  • Data management

  • Ghostwrote a speech (for privacy reasons I will not be revealing for whom)
